I am ecstatic that I got to be involved in this year’s Summer Sprouts program. I was very happy that we created a curriculum that made Summer Sprouts even more youth-led. It was amazing to see young leaders presenting workshops on sustainability, urban agriculture, food access, and social/environmental justice. Students harvested cooked and ate vegetables from the garden. They also went to amazing field trips around the city such as; Sutro Baths hike, Mt Sutro Hike, Golden Gate Park mountain biking, Herons Head in the Bayview, and city grazing. We ended the summer adventure with enjoying a dinner at NOPA Restaurant where the Chef/Owner Laurence Jossel inspired our students to think more about the food they eat and the concept of voting with their fork. I am happy that students left with more awareness and tools to make social/environmental change.
