With the school year ending I had plenty of time to reflect on the my time working with Urban Sprouts. I can honestly say that I got a lot out of the program. Wendy Landerholm was an amazing garden educator and set me up for an amazing time with our students. We not only created a diverse curriculum ranging from soil health to systems of inequality we guided the students in making their school campus a more fun and beautiful place to learn. So few are the times that you actually see the successes of your programs in this line of work but that statement doesn’t hold true for Aptos Middle school and Ida B. Wells. You can see the changes in student attitudes when it comes to the garden and even though students still walk around with hot chips, they bring more healthy alternatives.
