PROGRAM EVALUATION ASSISTANT (part-time, temporary)
The Organization
By cultivating school gardens in San Francisco’s under-served neighborhoods, Urban Sprouts partners with youth and their families to build eco-literacy, equity, wellness, and community. Our gardens help students become more engaged in school and connect with food, the environment and each other.
Each year we work with over 700 youth at six San Francisco public schools. Urban Sprouts conducts surveys and focus groups to determine the degree of students’ new knowledge, attitudes and behaviors after participating in our programs.
Job Description
The Program Evaluation Assistant will assist Urban Sprouts staff in implementing our end-of-year program evaluation. The Program Evaluation Assistant will be responsible for: conducting focus groups and interviews with student and adult participants, scheduling and coordinating focus groups, transcribing all evaluation notes and interviews, and preparing preliminary report documents. Urban Sprouts objectives include increases in students’ ecoliteracy, environmental awareness and preferences for consuming fruits and vegetables as a result of participating in our programs.
Job Responsibilities
- Partner with Garden Educator and school staff to schedule and conduct 12-15 student focus group.
- Partner with Garden Educator and school staff to schedule and conduct in-depth personal interviews with 5-7 teachers, school administrators, and parents.
- Transcribe all focus group and interview notes and documentation
- Prepare preliminary analysis documents of qualitative data.
- Communicate with Urban Sprouts staff on a regular and ongoing basis about work schedules, expectations and accomplishments.
- At least one year of experience or equivalent knowledge of program evaluation implementation and data analysis.
- Experience in group facilitation and interview techniques.
- Demonstrated responsibility, commitment and initiative in a job, school commitment, or other project.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including public speaking skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently, flexible, enthusiastic, creative thinker.
Desired Skills and Experience
This is a paid position working 15-20 hours per week, $18-20 per hour DOE, from mid-May through July
