May at June Jordan School for Equity taste to me like of fresh Tamales and Feels like a SF Bike Ride.
For the end of the semester celebration the gardening class and the art class combine efforts to make a Tamal Party or Tamalada, we make over 60 tamales; all sorts of fillings like garden veggies, mushrooms, chicken mole, rajas w/ cheese and strawberries; some refrito and garden salad on the side and for dessert pies and a incredible Cookie Pizza!
This past Tuesday I took the students out of the school to look at our surrounding community gardens in a Gardens Bike Tour: we visit Visitacion Valley Greenway, and Alemany Farm. Thanks Anne and Fran from the Visitacion Valley Greenway and Brett from Alemany Farm.
