Growing up I loved the Rain. Rain meant snuggling in my bed hearing the raindrops against the window, playing indoor games, or sharing stories with my family next to the fireplace while we sipped on arroz con leche. Now as a garden educator I see the rain different. Although I am more appreciative of how it waters our crops and helps to conserve water, it does put a damper to fun garden time. Luckily I’ve been able to take advantages of the pauses in the rain to take the students out and get most of our spring crops ready.
Even though the rain has definitely cut some garden time, its allowed me to spend more time with my students and really help them understand some concepts. We’ve done flower dissections, cooking, nutrition, and poster making. I finished up with a fun amazing game of jeopardy at Aptos to review everything we’ve gone over. They were amazing! They had so much fun and I can tell that they were definitely paying attention and learned some things. Overall the rainy days were not as bad as I anticipated but it has kept me on my toes.

I love rainy days provided we don’t get too many. The feel of rain on your face and the freshness it brings to the air are revitalising. It also has the same affect on your garden!
