Big Turnout for Work Party at Aptos

Our second monthly community work party brought out record numbers of families eager to turn what was once our student garden into a family community garden.  After a summer of construction, Aptos families who are now a part of our Farmer-in-Residence program finally had the chance to plant vegetables in their own plots.  The bulk of the work didn’t end there, however.  After three hours, families and volunteers had swept up and organized the family garden, weeded and planted herbs, natives, and drought-tolerant plants along the borders of the school, created a straw bale garden, carried multiple jugs of water for the thirsty green additions, and designed and painted a beautiful new sign.  At the end of the day, participants planted seeds in recycled pots to start their own container gardens at home.  Thank you to all the folks who came out on Saturday!
