As our school year draws to a close, we’re celebrating our hard work and encouraging all students to eat healthy through our school-wide Urban Sprouts events. Students at San Francisco Community, Aptos Middle School, and Ida B. Wells publicized the events, harvested from their gardens, and prepared food for their peers. At SF Community, we had an abundance of salad greens from the garden, and middle schoolers and staff gave a thumbs up to our applesauce vinaigrette and homemade ranch dressing. Many came back for seconds! At Ida B. Wells, our garden salad, which included lettuce, peas, and sunchokes from our garden, was part of a Wellness Day lunch promoting healthy bodies and minds. Our school-wide event was also a resounding success at Aptos, where students who had never been to the garden before munched on fruits and vegetables with dips prepared by Urban Sprouts students. We hope to have many more school-wide celebrations in the future!
