Summer Sprouts

Since 2006, Urban Sprouts has partnered with Garden for the Environment to provide an intensive summer gardening, leadership, and job skills program for 25 youth each year. High school students serve as staff for middle school-aged participants. Summer Sprouts includes: daily garden work; curriculum on gardening, recycling/composting, nutrition and sustainable agriculture; daily harvest and preparation of a healthy breakfast and lunch; field trips; and a youth-led event where participants share their learning with their families and friends. In 2012 we began a partnership with the Mayor’s Youth Employment Program (MYEP) to offer increased opportunities for paid positions for San Francisco youth.
