Joan Rose Tiongquico

Joan Rose describes Thursdays at the Mission Community Market as the best part of her week. She is enjoying blending her new-found interests in nutrition and gardening with her extensive background in empowering youth and working with disadvantaged communities as a volunteer for Urban Sprouts. She worked with low-income, first-generation students in Los Angeles for five years to promote higher education and leadership skills. She became involved with a literacy program as a tutor to adult learners who are learning how to read upon her return to the Bay Area two years ago. Volunteerism is a fundamental tenet for her, and she hopes that she can give to, learn from, and grow with Urban Sprouts.
